I see blood, anger, and sadness... the destruction of the balance of everything in the world. On the day the 16th star and moon come together, this fated time will come to pass. Whether it is light or darkness, you essentially have a strong life power." This was what the fortune teller told Aya Mikage, a normal high school girl. A couple of days later, it was Aya and her twin brother, Aki, birthday and they went to their grandfather's house where they were shown a mummified hand. On seeing this "present", Aya got a weird feeling and saw images of blood, while Aki got hurt badly, as the hand exploded, by some supernatural force. Because of this, their Grandfather decided that Aki was important to the Mikage Clan, while Aya has to be killed because she is the reincarnation of Ceres, the Tennyou who wants to destroy the Mikage family. Luckily, Aya was saved by Yuuhi and Suzumi who told her about the tennyou story and that she is the descendent of Ceres, the tennyou who was trapped here on earth. Hunted by her family, Aya now has to find out about her darker side - Ceres - and try to get rid of it in attempt to change her fate. Also she has to save Aki from his own fate. At the same time, Kagami Mikage, Aya's cousin is involved in a C-project, and is very interested in the powers of Tennyou. Can Aya ever become a normal girl again and re-unite with Aki?!?
Still interested??? This action packed, yet romantic, anime is really well worth watching. It is addictive, the artwork is brilliant, and the story line is amazing.
Ayashi No Ceres is written by Watase Yuu, one of my favorite authors. Some of her other pieces of work includes "Fushigi Yuugi", "Shishunki Miman Okotowari", "Zoku Shishunki Miman Okotowari", "Shishunki Miman Okotowari Kanketsu Hen", "Epotoransu! Mai", "Appare Jipangu", and her latest work "Ima Doki". The manga was published in Shoujo Comics from 1996 to 2000. The collectable version of the manga is 14 volumes long. Also there is one manga side story of how Ceres came about, and 6 novels:-Episode of Aki, Episode of Tooya, Episode of Shuro and Episode of Miku 1-3. The first three gives you an bit more of the Character's background, while the last three, Episode of Miku 1-3 is a sequel to the Ayashi no Ceres Comics. Viz Communications is starting to release the english version of this manga in the name of "Ceres, Celestial Legends" from June 2001.
One artbook has been released with some amazing manga illustrations, character profiles, a map of character relationships, a story guide, Watase Yuu's profile, and an interview with her. For all you Ayashi No Ceres fans, this book is a must have. The illustrations in the artbook can be seen in the image gallery.
The anime of Ayashi No Ceres is 24 episodes long. Viz Communications has started to release the english dubbed version of this series also called "Ceres, Celestial Legends" from July 2001.
